Steve Reeves

Author Scott York - [22 Feb 2010]

This is a post about me, my friends Joe Vitale and George Helmer and of course, Steve Reeves.

I began bodybuilding in 1985 after seeing a magazine with Bob Paris on the cover.

I was standing in the checkout line of the grocery store.

It was Spring.

I needed some motivation.

I played football in High School.

But now that I was just out of High School, I was not doing much physically.

Of course I was still eating the same amount of calories daily as when I played football.

But now those calories were sticking with me instead of being burned off through football practice, lifting and running.

So I needed to find something to do.

And I noticed the Muscle and Fitness magazine cover.

I bought that issue, took it home and devoured it from cover to cover.

I joined Gold’s Gym there in Waco,  …

From Body Builder To Business Woman

Author Scott York - [13 Nov 2009]

I started collecting Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Ironman and some of the other bodybuilding magazines around 1985.

I remember Clifta.

In the early 90’s, Clifta Coulter started appearing in Flex magazine as well as Ironman, Muscle and Fitness and others.

In 1996, Clifta turned pro by winning the Overall USA Championships.

She competed a bit and then changed directions in her life.

Clifta began to immerse herself in her personal training business and in her love for horses.

Time went by.

In early 2009, I began working with Clifta on the business side of fitness.

You see, too many bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors and enthusiasts simply don’t have the time or knowledge to invest in the business of bodybuilding and fitness.

I love to help.

It’s what my passion is.  It’s what part of my business is.

Coaching, mentoring, creating.

Since early 2009, Clifta has  …

Are You Watching The Trends?

Author Scott York - [17 Sep 2009]

Digital book readers could soon become the ‘next big thing’, as new models with new features are released this fall.

If you doubt that the shift to electronic publishing is happening, check this out. According to Amazon, the digital version of Dan Brown’s new thriller "The Lost Symbol" is outselling the paper version at Amazon.

Basically more people are buying the downloadable, Kindle version, than are buying the print version - at least through Amazon.

What makes this more amazing is that there are only 3 million Kindle owners! Imagine what would happen if there were 100 million ebook readers out there.

This is good news for info publishers of all sizes. If the trend holds, it means that when ereaders are mainstream, digital books could be major sellers.

Digital books are far less expensive to duplicate and  …

“Perfection Is A Moving Target”

Author Scott York - [5 Sep 2009]

You may have heard the quote that states “Perfection is a moving target”.

Too often, we get caught up in trying to get everything just perfect.

While you are working on “perfect,” someone else with “just okay” is raking in all the money.

Reading the next book, attending the next seminar, or trying the latest software alone will do nothing for you, the key lies in taking action.

This is the Ready, Aim, Aim, and Aim syndrome.

Always aiming and never pulling the trigger.

I would like to invite you to try a technique suggested to me by Michael Masterson-the Ready, Fire, Aim technique.

Do something; even if it is wrong go ahead take the shot, screw up.

At the very least, you are  …

Opportunities Everywhere As Others Retreat

Author Scott York - [14 Aug 2009]

Starting from Scratch

If I wanted to make money in bodybuilding, fitness or figure and if I had to start fresh, with little money, here are the steps that I would take starting right now.

1) I would get a video camera. I would get one that has an external microphone port, has image stabilization, records to HD video and costs less than $200. The new Kodak Zi8 HD Pocket Video Camera would be my entry level choice. It will pay for itself many times over. If I couldn’t afford the camera, I would find a friend and ask to borrow theirs. Note - the Kodak is due to be released on September 15th 2009

2) I would sign up for a free www.youtube.com account. I would pick a username for my youtube account that people can  …

What’s Your Plan?

Author Scott York - [24 Jul 2009]

Joe Vitale has a plan.

Lee Priest has a plan.

Sure, they’re on different paths but both of these guys have had plans to get to where they are.

They’ve both had a tremendous amount of success.

Joe is a best selling author, is a marketing genius, has appeared in some popular movies such as, “The Secret” and has a million dollar car collection (and growing).

Lee Priest is one of (if not the) most popular pro bodybuilders in the world.  Lee has traveled the world and has had some amazing adventures.

He’s been sponsored by some of the biggest names in the fitness industry such as:  Twinlab, MuscleTech, Muscular Development, Muscle Mag, and the list goes on and on.

Having a plan has been instrumental in both of these men’s success.

Here’s an important list of characteristics that  …

Steve Reeves: The Legend Lives On…

Author Scott York - [7 Jul 2009]

“Steve Reeves - the idol of celebrities and athletes - from Winston Churchill, James Dean and Willie Mays to Burt Reynolds, Sly Stallone, Arnold and Lou Ferrigno.

Reeves is still considered by most bodybuilding aficionados to be the most perfectly developed Mr America ever.

I recall asking Ben Weider (who has seen virtually every bodybuilder - champion and professional - in his 50 years as President of the IFBB) whom he considered to have the “greatest physique” of all time.

The speed of his reply was shocking, for his answer was instant:  “Steve Reeves”.

Reeves remains many things to the bodybuilding world.

It is safe to say that he is the most popular bodybuilder of all time, and will remain so until another bodybuilder can boast a cover and monthly series 50 years after retiring from competition - as Reeves did with All  …

Top Characteristics of Future Fitness Billionaires

Author Scott York - [1 Jun 2009]

One of the quickest ways to achieve your bodybuilding and fitness goals is to seek out someone who has already done what you would like to accomplish.

Back in the 90’s when I was competing in bodybuilding, I went to the biggest guy in the gym, Mike Scarcella, and asked him if I could be his training partner.

Mike laughed a little.

(Mike Scarcella cover Muscle Mag)

He laughed because he was asked this all of the time by guys who either couldn’t hang or just never showed up for training sessions.

Mike was serious about his training.

He gave me a shot, though, and said to show up the next day for “Leg Day”.

I showed up early the next day.

And I kept showing up.

For the next 1 ½ - 2 years.

Mike went on to  …
