We all only have so much time to spend working on our business marketing.
And with the introduction of social media like facebook and twitter, it’s tempting to spend lots of our precious time exploring these new marketing tools.
I was listening to a Bob Bly interview this week.
Bob Bly is a famous copyrighter (the publishing giant, McGraw- Hill calls Bob “America’s top copywriter”) and a self made millionaire before the age of 40.
He made more than $700,000 in 2008 from his writing and information marketing business.
Even copywriting legend David Ogilvy says of Bob: “I don’t know a single copywriter whose work would not be improved by reading Bob’s book called, The Copywriter’s Handbook. And that includes me.”
Bob points out that a lot of internet marketers say: “My ROI (return on investment) from social networking is great!”
And that is because it costs mostly nothing to use Facebook, twitter and other similar sites.
However, if you are a “solopreneur”, it does cost you something - TIME!
And time is more precious than money.
You can always make more money, but your time is limited.
There was a recent study done by Michael Stelzner showing that people who have been doing social networking for a long time are spending 20 hours or so a week on these sites.
It’s not cost effective at all if you look at ROIT (return on invested time).
It’s very hard to measure or monetize that time investment.
On the other hand, in Bob’s experience, spending time doing email marketing typically makes him $8000 to $10,000 each week for just a few minutes of writing emails.
My take on this is simple.
I’m spending less time on twitter and facebook and MORE time working with my affiliates and more time working on my upsell pages.
When you look at the most powerful tool in your marketing arsenal it would have to be AFFILIATES.
This is how people get rich - plain and simple.
Affiliates are like an army of salespeople located around the world who are selling your products for you.
Like my product at www.outdoorfitnessgames.com
And www.bestofbodybuildersreality.com
And others.
But affiliates are something that Bodybuilders, Fitness and Figure enthusiasts don’t know much about.
But if they are business minded and want to earn tons of cash, they should spend time discovering this powerful tool.
I explain how affiliates work in great detail in my CD of the month, “How To Make Money In BodyBuilding, Fitness and Figure 101!”
The other tool to focus on is UPSELLS.
An example would be that if someone is registering for my fitness bootcamp at www.fullforcefitness.net, then after the product (bootcamp session) is chosen - the customer should be taken to an UPSELL page within the shopping cart.
And additional offers should be made to that customer.
While they are “hot” buyers.
While they have their credit cards out.
An example would be “Get 2 bootcamp sessions and get a third for 1/2 off!”
This will bring in more money and it’s a good deal for the customer.
So, look at how much time you are spending on facebook, twitter and other social media and ask yourself if you are getting the most ROTI.
I know I’ll be spending less time on social media and more time on affiliates and upsells!

The study found that 10% of twitter’s members account for 90% of all messages sent.
According to the study, half of all Twitter users tweet less than once every 74 days, and “the median number of lifetime tweets per user is one.”
So most people who join twitter, send one message, then their usage ends.
So if you’re not twittering, don’t feel left out. You are not alone.
