Arnold is and always will be committed to bodybuilding.
In fact, The Arnold Classic will be held for the numerous time in Columbus, Ohio during the weekend of March 6-8th.
Over 100,000 thousand people will flood the Convention Center to be part of this event.
I was there in 2007 at the MuscleMag booth with Lee Priest and it was a wild, wild circus.
But that’s a story for another time.
Back to Arnold.
Arnold has conquered every challenge that stood before him.
Coming to America, learning the English language, getting his degree, buying real estate, bodybuilding, aligning himself with powerful people, Hollywood, politics, etc.
Tony Little is a trainer whose got a ponytail and an infomercial.
Here’s a secret.
A lot of personal trainers are afraid of bodybuilders.
Not because of their superior dedication in the gym, hyper muscularity or working knowledge of the body.
But because, some personal trainers know that if bodybuilders, fitness or figure enthusiasts/competitors ever understand the power of the internet, leveraging their time, product creation, websites and the business of fitness, then personal trainers might start losing business.
In the meantime, some trainers are content to keep the bodybuilders down.
By telling anyone who will listen that “Joe Smith over there is full of steroids - he’s just a musclehead”.
As if being a musclehead is a bad thing.
As more and more stories of steroid abuse come to the forefront whether it be baseball, football, The Olympics, high school athletes, girls, golf and archery (?), that veil that separates bodybuilding from all of the aforementioned is disappearing.
Could it be that the bodybuilders accused of steroids use the same amount (or less) than the superstar baseball player that’s currently in the news?
I’ve hung around Lee Priest for 2 years and I know damn well that there is truth to this.
Have you ever seen a picture of Lee at 13/14 years old?
Genetics?
Sure.
But he busts his ass in the gym too.
His Grandfather used to come knock on his window early in the morning (rain or shine) to accompany him to the gym for a workout.
But you never hear a trainer talking about this part of the story.
You never hear them talking about how Arnold use to sneak into the gym in Germany and workout with no heat, hands sticking to the barbells due to the freezing winter.
Could it be that bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors/enthusiasts actually work harder and smarter at physique development than personal trainers and average people who just don’t want to work hard?
I’ll take Arnold anytime.
So with the 21st century, we now have a HUGE opportunity with information product creation.
Huh?
Mike Mentzer understood product creation.
As does/did Lee Labrada, Rich Gaspari, Gerard Dente, Cory Everson, Steve Reeves, and more.
But they are the minority.
A lot of bodybuilders, fitness and figure enthusiasts/competitors are content to sell pictures, shirts and posing trunks.
They don’t know about recurring products.
They don’t know about eBooks.
They don’t know that they can create their own DVDs, CDs, seminars, certifications, manuals and more.
They just don’t know.
As I continue to work with the most famous bodybuilders, fitness and figure enthusiasts/competitors in the world, you can bet that I am turning back the pages to another time.
That of the 70’s when Mike Mentzer was grossing 6 + figures a month with “Heavy Duty”.
Without the internet.
And there’s no reason that we can’t all coexist.
Let’s talk about it over a ‘Leg Day’…
