Help Out Your Local Media

Austin, Texas Fit City

Yesterday, I had an email from Austin American Statesman Fitness/Lifestyle writer, Pam LeBlanc.

She asked me to help her with a fitness related blog post that she was working on.

I responded quickly and gave her my input.

The link to her fitness blog is below.

The lesson here is that if you are a fitness professional, you must always help the local/national media with whatever it is they are working on.

Form good relationships with your local media.

Email them, introduce yourself and ask them if there is anything that you can help them with.

Invite them to your boot camp class, send them a shirt, offer to buy them lunch and talk fitness.

The media needs us just as much as we need them.

You have stories to tell, they need stories to tell.

One writer cannot do it all.

It is reported that P.T. Barnum, 5 days before he died in 1891said, “I am indepted to the press of the United States for almost every dollar for which I possess and for every success as an amusement manager which I have ever received.  The very great popularity which I have attained both at home and abroad I ascribe almost entirely to the liberal and persistent use of the public journals of this country.”
