The President’s Council On Physical Fitness and Sports

Author Scott York - [31 Oct 2008]

Oct 31, 2008 -  I spent the first part of this morning in downtown Austin, Texas at Paul Carrozza’s RunTex Riverside store filming Paul for our upcoming video for Austin’s Mayors Fitness Council.

Paul and his wife Sheila, founded RunTex in 1988 and have since built their business into the Nation’s largest store devoted exclusively to running. In addition to RunTex, Mr. Carrozza also founded RunTex University and RunTex Events.

RunTex Events produces over 120 events per year and raises over $5 million annually for local charities. He is also co-founder and sponsor of RunTex Marathon Kids Program, which has successfully helped over 100,000 children achieve endurance and learn to enjoy running.

Paul is also serves on The President’s Council On Physical Fitness and Sports along with Hall of Famer, Lynn Swann, Denise Austin and others.

Presidents Council Members Share Fitness Tips

Both President George W. Bush and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson have a vision of a “HealthierUS,” an America where people are empowered to make healthy choices. In brief, they want each one of us to:

  • Be physically active every day, adults for 30 minutes, children for 60 minutes,
  • Eat a nutritious diet,
  • Get preventive screenings, and
  • Avoid risky behaviors.

Some members of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports wanted to share with you what they do on a regular basis to stay active and keep fit.  Maybe you can adapt a few of their fitness tips to your own lifestyle and make them work for you:

Wake up, work out, eat some Halloween candy tonight!

Sounds pretty good to me!

Have a safe and happy Halloween!
